"Marijuana" (a William Randolph Hearst terminology) grown for it's euphoric/inibriating THC content is another subject.
As drug laws became stricter per weight, THC levels became more concentrated, and the "drug" became much more potent.
Just as the Incas once chewed raw cocca leaves as a stimulant (equivalent to a cup of coffee), the condensing of the active ingredients into direct-effect forms(e.g. crack cocaine) led to overdoses, and associated social propblems.
This took a direct toll on worker productivity, and Federal expenditures....
