This may be correct, I frequently hear small leaks at the exhaust manifold on these trucks, sounds like a lifter noise. A lot of the times, you can only hear it when it is cold, as the motor warms up, the noise quiets.
These motors seem to be real durable. I have seen a couple with loose chains, and chain guides, and have done couple of heads to remedy stripped spark plug holes, but they seem to be good for the long haul
