The picture I posted somewhere else of my 325iS shows it with 4 bolt, 15" Ronal basket weave-style wheels that were available once upon a time in the aftermarket. A set of stock 325iS wheels would probably work (I don't remember the bolt pattern/offset needed for an E21 car) but they'd be limited to 14." Maybe the iX cars used 15", I don't remember.
If his bolt pattern is the same as an E30, he can get 15" basketweaves from a Euro Car, or supposedly the iX as you mentioned. I have a set, but I think I am keeping them to put sticky autoX tires on
