I think either way but if it was mine I'd use the old carpet below the Cocomat. I've just ordered a set for mine from Jeff at Cocomats.com, he is very helpful and knows all the ins and outs of what you need. His number 1-800-461-3533 or above site. (I think they can also be used on their own)
