Wow, that's both surprising and dissappointing. I own and shoot several revolvers and rifles in in this caliber, and find it to be the most useful all-around revolver round I've ever run accross. Of course, I have never actually bought ammunition in this caliber, or even component bullets. Every round of .45 Colt I have ever fired has been loaded by myself, one of my uncles, or my dad, including casting all of the bullets (they made the kids do that from a pretty early age - oh, the horror!). I've never had trouble getting brass, but maybe it well and truly is more of a hand loaders' and bullet casters' caliber these days.
Odd that it would not be more popular, what with all the cowboy action shooters out there, and all of their Peacemaker knock-offs. That, and Ruger still chambers the Blackhawk and Vaquero in that caliber (have several of each), Colt still makes the Peacemaker (several of those, too), and companies like U.S. Firearms are building "better Colts than Colt" (a few of them, too...). Folks must be handloading, or just not shooting them.
