Kemp T/B Tool Knock-Off
I have offered to help a friend change out a timing belt/water pump on an 84 928 he recently purchased. He excitedly explained his version of the same old story, no history - doesn’t run - dead in the water for many years – interior fair – exterior good – but it was DIRT CHEAP (famous last words). I did caution him to trailer it home to drain the tank, flush out the fuel system, change all the fluids, etc…..
My question is about seeing a few Timing Belt Tensioning Gauges on Ebay that look very similar to the Kemp Tool. I’ve been told that there are reliable knock-off copies floating around but since the sellers do no mention a brand name I have been a little leery of the product. I have asked the seller if these are a Jay Kemp Tool or one of the knock-off s but so far I’ve yet to receive a response ? The bid usually starts at around $25 and will normally close out around $45.
My other question is – Could we purchase or borrow a flywheel locking tool and Kemp Tool from someone once the parts come in ? We are located in East Texas.
Thanks, Michael
Update - Sorry if I wasn't clear on our request. We were not asking to borrow the genuine certified Porsche factory timing belt tensioning and adjustment tool which sells for $600. Didn't even know there was such a critter. I am not sure if we could even operate such a machine.... We had hoped that someone might have one of the Kemp style tools and a flywheel locking tool they might sell or as a quick turn-a-round loan.
As we get further into the recently purchased 928, it may be another one of those fine $5,000 cars after a $7,000 investment - ha Thanks - Michael
