Hobbes was killed by a car tonight.
He died about half an hour after greeting me as I walked up the driveway, returning from a business trip. It must have been a hard hit and a very quick death. He had no external injuries but felt broken inside. His collar was blown off and his tags broke away. I will try to find them in the morning. I brought his body back in a box, and the kids hugged and petted him and cried. We showed his body to the other cat. By lantern light, we buried him in the front yard, shrouded in white cloth, with a favorite cat toy and a small bag of catnip. We'll plant catnip over his grave tomorrow.
