I've gone back and forth between mud an a/t's but the difference in mileage has been so small (and in both directions) that it was most likely changes in my driving habits.
The best mud terrains I have had were Goodyear Wrangle MTR's (not the new ones with Kevlar) they handle well on the street, were quiet (for mud terrains), and still did okay in the sand....they didn't last long at all though and I had some chunks torn out of them when I'd play in the rocks.
