Perhaps you could bribe Thom with a beer or lunch to go check it out with you. Nothing like a pair of educated eyes to pick out potential problems.
Take a weak magnet, some crappy clothes you can climb around under a car with, little flashlight, inspection mirror, probably other stuff too
