I use it inside and out on the car and around the house. It only smells for a few minutes after using it.

0000 steel wool works great on the windshield, inside and out.

For the outside, I clean it with steel wool using back and forth motion like when waxing and then follow it up with a heavy dose of RainX. I do this on all of our cars. Bugs wash right off and I rarely need to use my wipers.
