Christmas Tree
Long time lurker. First post.
My 1990 C4S has the dreaded Christmas tree issue. All the lights on the dash come on. Typically they flash briefly, go out for a few seconds, then come on and stay on. Generally the beeper goes crazy at the same time. I am unable to reset it other than turning the key off and then back on. The '!' button is useless.
This problem ONLY happens when I have my lights on. If I drive with the lights off, I NEVER have a problem. As soon as I put the light switch to the first (parking) or second (headlight) position I will eventually have the problem.
I am thinking possibly it is a voltage issue (my battery is a bit old and weak), but I can not induce the problem with the heater fan, and I would think that would pull the voltage down as much as the lights. Also the parking lights are not really a high electrical draw, so I tend not to think it is low voltage.
I did the 're-solder' fix on the dash, no improvement. I also re-seated the ECU plug.
I am wondering if I have a) a bad ECU or b) a bad ground on the lighting circuit.
Looking for trouble-shooting suggestions. This is REALLY annoying, the car is otherwise excellent, but I no longer like to drive it at night.....
