Rear blower motor replacement

Hi all,

The rear blower motor in the engine compartment of my '92 seemed to develop an issues causing a terrible screeching sound. The Bosch replacement motor is easy to find, so I thought of replacing just the motor. I removed the entire assembly and started dismantling it to get to the motor. Right now I have the motor attached to the squirrel cage, but can't figure out how to remove the cage from the motor. There is something at the center that almost looks like a rivet. The pictures of the replacement motor look like it might be a press-fit. Should I just yank on the squirrel cage to remove it?

On a related note, I noticed an air hose going from the ducting to the rear center tail light. This is in addition to the distributor vent line. What is the purpose of the line to the tail light?
Thanks,

Jamil
