Let's get the terms right first!
The duct is the item that straps under your a-arm.
The modified Backing Plate is the item that brings air to the back of the rotor.
It sound as if your bottleneck is at the point where you need to attach it to the 2-1/2" spot at the backing plate. Use a reducer and it should make this job simple.
