Pedroia's comments were B.S. Does he have any idea how the fields used to be "way back when"? Big ruts, uneven surfaces, bare patches, even molehills were common in the by-gone days of the sport. I'd actually like to see it more like that - a bit more rough and tumble with re-elevated pitchers mounds and the like - rather than today's watered-down incarnation of the sport with a bunch of millionaire prima-donnas standing around on golf-course manicured lawns waiting to make their one or two catches a game while all the hitters look to "go yard" every at-bat (rather than engaging in situational/tactical hitting) because the game is so ridiculously tailored towards the home run ball these days.
I still like baseball, but as with most things - the best era of it has come and gone.
