You will be surpised how good the knee will feel after being scoped. I was PO'd for not having it done sooner.
As far as will it "weaken" the knee. It depends on what is wrong and how they fix it. Mine just had a bunch of fibers in the knee, no serious tears. Also, if they "fix" the tears, they can heal and be stronger.
