I've been scouring this fantastic forum for information for the past weeks and am starting to get a pretty good feel for what I want for my first porsche.
It will be exported to Norway and must be 30 years old due to import duties (a 1980 will do as it won't be here til after new years anyways).
Just for a bit of background, I have wrenched a bit on motocross and bicycles but basically nothing on cars and am NOT looking for a project, rather a reliable weekend driver.
So it's down either an 'as original as possible' '79 (US) 930 Turbo or an '80 (RoW) 930 Turbo. Price range $20-30K. I have my sights on a few cars and will take the plunge befoe long. My two questions are:
Can anyone offer any pros and cons over a '79 US and '80 Row 930's? Ride height, AC and Sunroof are the only differences I can see and possibly something with the exhaust? I don't care much about the sunroof and I live in the fricking arctic so AC is not necessary!
The next one is Stock vs Modified/upgraded. To get the vehicle inspected as a 'vintage car' it needs to be more or less in its original form. at least visably (they are not going to start looking at camshafts and piston rods). but ride height, dimensions, wheels/tires and body are all critical. If I buy a stock 930 (like this one:
Porsche : 930:eBay Motors (item 150381021301 end time Oct-21-09 12:02:30 PDT) ) will I end up having to do turbo, IC, WUR, headers, exhaust, etc upgrades do get it to be a reasonable driver? that kind of work would cost a fortune to get done over here so it's just not going to happen.
