The 2 pros I have used previously applied Termidor after trenching around the foundation, drilling though any patios, walkways, and along the interior wall of the garage. Now, they don't even trench around the house. They soak the ground well with 2 applications. They still drill and fill the other areas.

IIRC, the most important aspect is ensuring you have a continuous barrier (no gaps) around your home. If you can accomplish this with the pvc pipes, go for it. I really don't know if it is sufficient. For the money you're saving, you could simply retreat the entire perimeter of the home once a year or perhaps once every other year, but it'd be serious overkill.
