Cooper S front suspension

My wife picked up her S yesterday. I finally got to drive it today. It's a nice car and fun to drive, but the front suspesion seems too stiff. The rear seems firm but when driven hard through a corner the front feels like it is packing down from too much dampening. When it does this the front starts to hop or skip sideway while the rear stays smoothly planted. Has anyone else had this experience? Will it get better with mileage, (it only has 50 miles on it now) or did they just miss the target on this point?

Otherwise the car is very nice with lots of cool features such as radio/CD player control with finger tip buttons on the back of the steering wheel and multi-way adjustable seats. The fit and finish is good and it is very quite on the freeway much like the BMW's we have owned in the past.
