LIke anybody who has been out on a booze bender the night before, one wakes up with a terrible hangover. This hangover prompts one to swear off the stuff at least fo awhile. Depending upon the severity of the hangover (great depression) the plege to abstain might last decades. At any rate the plege will last as long as someone is around who can remember the hangover, once one has forgotten the hangover one is likely to go back on another bender.
