As was said by DFWX in another thread, Porsche was a little company that grew up because of the 928. But it was a tough process, they did not have the support system in place for such a different and complex vehicle. The small dealer network and smaller number of mechanics used to working on air cooled 911 engines could not keep the 928's serviced properly.

So they started to get a bad rep, undeserved, and then fell into disrepair and then were cheap to buy but still difficult to fix and expensive and ..........
now owned by 928 fans. If you don't know how to fix one you should not buy one.
Similiar thing is underway at AM it seems
maybe they will get their service dept.s organized or maybe not.
