Each distributor adds dyes to their different grades of gasoline. I first noticed this at an early age when the local distributor would fill our big gas and diesel tanks out on the farm. One time the gas or diesel would be purple, the next time green, the next time almost clear. Different color depending on what plant it came from. So about the only way to know if the gas looks abnormal is to know what it looked like when it went in. I always think the smell test is a better indicator of whether gas has gone bad or not. If you can smell the difference, then the gas is beyond bad. If there is any doubt, just change out the gas.
