Ok, well, I haven't a clue, but maybe crack open a beer and spend some quality time with your multimeter. See what kind of voltage it has with the car's electrics on and off, or even just ring it out with everything off and see what resistance it has. That might tell if it just goes to ground, or if it leads to a component somewhere.
