Good luck. We just won the first Chumpcar event in Portland over the weekend. We had a group of Porsche guys who race mostly vintage Formula Vees so we know how to keep a slow car going around a track without using up the brakes.
It was great fun and actually great racing too. I've never made so many moves on a race track. I'm fairly new to racing so it was great experience.
The key for us was good clean driving, aggressive when we needed to be, conservative when that made sense. We drove the entire race with no mechanical issues on one set of brakes and tires. Just driver changes, fuel and oil. The car was done at the end, burned valve, shaking like a leaf, clanking and clunking but it made it. I was totally beat at the end and am still a little brain dead. Maybe got a couple of hours of sleep in two days. Drove at night in the fog which is not something I would want to do again. We'll be going again next summer hopefully in Spokane.
Have fun!
