When your number is up, your number is up. I've been hit by a car on the hwy at speed while on my bike and didn't go down, not due to any riding skill. But my number wasn't up. I've been in a violent rollover in a Jetta, crawled out where the windshield once was, car was a mangled mess. My number wasn't up.
