I was caught in a system like that on the Illinois/Wisconsin border several years ago. I couldn't see the lines on the road. I put on my hazards on and stopped where I was. When the rain subsided, I was pointed 45º from the lines (pointed towards the ditch) and one wheel was in the shoulder.
