Not to hijack the thread but a friend of mine and I are buying some land in the middle of the desert, NW of Phoenix. It has a honest to God bomb shelter on the place, as does 4-5 other places in that area.

We did some research on this and it turns out that the housing development was started in the late 1950's and early 1960's and many people opted for this shelter due to the Cold War looming over everyone. Its made out of concrete and large enough to sleep 4 people on bunk beds very comfortably and more if you are forced into it. Small kitchen, head, and large storage areas for food.

The door is very heavy and metal, and seals up the place very well. Three locks on it make it so you are not going to get in unless you have a torch or the keys. Its a very nice place to store things that you want to make sure will be there when you get home. Right now tools and long term food are stored there.
