There are ways. You'd be surprised how many places your cell number might show up. Have you Google'ed it? I Google'ed my (allegedly unpublished) home and office numbers. Both showed up with my name and address.

Also had a similar experience. Someone charged $2.10 to my card. Received a call from my bank almost immediately. I suspected the caller could have been "phishing" (or more recently named "vishing") so I told them I'd call the bank myself.

Bank confirmed that someone (a homebuilder in another state) charged my card for a small amount in hopes of validating it. Had it not been caught, they would have come back in a day or so for the big win.

I am cautious to a fault with my card/personal info. Everything gets shredded. I click on nothing, etc. Yet these idiots still managed to get my card info.

Can't trust anyone these days.
