Had a reserve position on my old BMW petcock but there are times that the reserve straw falls off, and then you are screwed. Thats what happened to me and I limped it in on the opposite side of the tank going very slow.

No one in East Germany had ever seen a new BMW, and had quite a crowd when I stopped. It was a real experience...
