Truer words never spoken!
In my house, the house my great-grandfather and great uncle built in 1955 sits the stove that my grandfather bought - an American Motors - in 1961 when he married my step-grandmother. It works like a charm. We've only changed the lower heating element in the oven once. The oven door hinge is a little weak now, but could be easily fixed.
Until I met my last girlfriend the original, 1961 vintage washer and dryer were in the laundry room. She came with a new fangled front loader set. We gave my '61's to her sister and when we split she let me keep the front loaders.
The refrigerator is the only thing from 1961 that has died. I replaced it about three years ago.
