I believe that you should be able to get 225s on the front and 245s on the rear of 16 inch wheels. I have also heard of 255s on the rear of 16s. However, I don't think I would run those sizes on 6" rims. I am on 7" frt and 9"rear.
Why run different sizes front and rear? More rubber on the front relative to the rear will add mechanical grip to the front and cause oversteer.
