The red dot is really just for looks.
There is no way in hell i'd give up the factory iron A2 sights on an AR. They are too damn good, and i qualified expert too many times with them to ever live without them.
At -25 meters i'm using my day/night green laser. At +25 yards i'm using the Trijicon A2 iron sights. The red dot is just a fashion statement.
Honestly, if the S ever HTF i'd take it off to save weight and bulk. All the shooting i'd be doing in my locale is -50 stuff.
What that hi-mount red dot
would be great for is shooting with a gas mask on. Low mount sights or the factory iron sights are unusable with a standard GI gas mask on. LOL....
