Jay, I've been looking for a replacement horn, I think I'll use your idea!
Yeah, those tubes do seem to be overkill for the heater controls, but they probably lasted longer than their spiral wound counterparts. BTW, in their original configuration, those tubes poked thru the firewall and stuck out into the engine bay by an inch or two.
