A construction error I was born with. I was ok for the first 20 years of my life but then all of a sudden (and due to other factors?) the left urether got blocked/pinched and caused my left kidney to stop working and swell up to more than twice its normal size. (together with a decent amount of agony)
An operation removed the obstruction and my kidney came down to almost its normal size and started working again.
Because of the rapid swelling and shrinking, the inside of the kidney looks a bit different when compared to a normal one. And it now has the tendency to produce stones more easily.
But like I said, it is only occasionaly that I have problems or pain. I can live with it, no problem. The kidney is healthy and works just fine. I just need to drink regularly and I'm fine.
A lot of people have kidney stones and just don't know.
