Holy cow is there money in CRASHCAR! I took a look at the annual drivers winnings tallies at the end of a season several years ago. Both CART/ChampCar and NASCAR drivers were listed. The top money winners in ChampCar made about a tenth of what the worst drivers (43rd or so) in NASCAR earned in prize money. That didn't even include endorsement income. IRL finances may be a bit better now, but I still can't believe they're that much healthier now than what they were like during the Split.
You can race your heart out all year in American open wheel racing and (unless you win the million dollars that comes with Indy) collect less than $1 mil in prize money, or finish at the back of the pack in NASCAR and make about $6-7 mil.
