FYI,
The German word for speedometer is Tacho or "tach". You were right in a different language...
PS Tachometer in German is "Drehlzahlmesser". Thegermans love to smash words together to make new ones. Drehen is "to turn", Zahlen is "to count", and a messer is a "measurer".
