I said "former" doll. The un-named boss made a comment that she "used to be pretty" in the last episode. Knowking Joss Wedon's style, this was an intentional clue. She probably had the "active architecture" removed, but like Hotel California, "you can check out, but you can never leave".

If I'm getting this gist of this, it is that there are 12 colony planets that were inhabited by 12 human tribes long long ago, all 12 of the planets are in the same solar system and are governed together but all are different cultures and slightly different beliefs. Originally there were 13 tribes, but 1 tribe decided to inhabit a far away planet called Earth.
