Simple answer
I usually don't jump in on threads like this, but I have a fairly simple comment. I have been a R Gruppe member since almost the beginning. I have never met a better bunch of guys. NO SNOBS !
This is not a nose in the air club. Membership is kept low to keep the club managable to about 250 members. The original idea was for the cars to be pre 74, with sports modifications as the factory did. Could you imagine 1000+ members, and 600+ showing up for a Treffen. You would need several people working full time just to organize the yearly event. And for sure someone would do something crazy to ruin the event. Year to year members drop out, and new ones come in. Simple. I have never heard of someone being rejected because they were not "cool" enough. It's all about keeping the club to a managable size.
