I helped my folks shop for a new TV after their 25 year old RCA console went out... this was about 4 years ago. They wanted something high end that would last forever, like the old RCA.
They ended up getting what was, at the time, a pretty top of the line model. It was a Sony, 42", 720P with HDMI and integrated HDTV tuner. It was $3000.
It looks beautiful... but I really wish I would have known that LCD prices were about to plummet. a year later, a similar 1080i version would have been about $1800.
Now, a outperforming 1080P version is about $800.
I'm waiting to settle into a new place before throwing down about $750 on a 1080P tv. It's exciting that consumer electronics prices have gotten so low. Same goes with laptop computers....
