It depends on how bad the feud was between the Piech and Porsche families if my reading was correct the bad blood runs deep and rumors were that Porsche tried to aquire VW to ruin it the same may be the verse.
As for it being a good year YES it was I got my car running after nearly 3 years and it is boosted, CIS and CDI free (Bitz EFI and megasquirt controlled EDIS).
