I've seen a one or two less expensive with slightly higher miles, but this looks like a decent deal. The clutch is about a $2000 expense though, but if you replace it at least you know when.
I found this on craigslist in my area and they want $14,500.
Porsche 968 1994, 28,500miles, silver (beautiful finish), interior black leather in perfect condition, 4 cylinder 3.0L engine, 6 speed manual transmission, all 4 tires are in great condition, cd player with 6 disk changer, tinted windows, rides like a charm and carefully maintained. This is a potentially beautiful collection car, knowing that only a few are left in north America.
If you can live with a convertible they are less expensive many times, just add a roll bar and you are all set. Others like me, prefer the S2 as well. Also usually a bit less expensive with a little less HP, but terrific handling car! Extremely well sorted and balanced, you wouldn't believe it until you drive one. Mine is about the best handling car I've ever owned.
Whatever you do, with these cars in particular you need service records and the most recent everything is done the better. Timing belts usually need replacing at 30k to 45k intervals or within 5 to 6 years. Water pumps & motor mounts are pretty much the same especially for your intended use. Also, exhaust, cats, steering racks, shocks & radiators can go anytime if not already replaced. Remember you are talking about a 15 to 20 year old car.
In spite of all my cautionary blah, blah, blah, 968 & 944S2s are fantastic track cars. 944S2s with 207 hp are not as fast as a 911 in the straights but once you are in a curve, all bets are off. 968 having 236 hp will be very competitive in almost any situation.
Have fun!
