I've always enjoyed Letterman more than Leno, but have really gotten sick of him pushing his leftist views.
I've watched a lot more Leno in the last few years... especially during and after the prez campaign when Letterman was almost unwatchable, and do think Jay is a regular guy as has been said here many times... and respect that immensely... and dig the fact that he loves cars as much as I do. I've watched a lot of those "Jay's Garage" vids on the NBC site.
I really like Craig Ferguson... he's as naturally funny as anyone who's ever been on TV. When CBS was trying out different guys in that slot after Craig Kilborne, I was hoping they'd decide on D.L. Hughley because he makes me laugh almost constantly, and I think he's one of the funniest guys working today. But I think Ferguson is perfect in that slot, and I don't regret CBS picking him.
The reason I've always liked Letterman is that he has that "pull-my-finger," everyday, corny humor that just can't be faked. It reminds me a little of my dad's humor, too.
If you took his political biases out of the mix, I think he is as funny as they get... I think all of these guys are great interviewers, but I think Letterman and the people he is interviewing are having a lot of fun 99% of the time.
(If you want to see an extremely funny comedy DVD, get ahold of D.L. Hughley's "Unapologetic." If you don't laugh your azz off, there ain't a cow in Texas.)
