Porsche Crest 912 engine

My very nice 912 67 has been fully restored following the golden rules: first body, then interior and then engine and transmission
Now is time to look at the engine. It has a very good 68 engine that has a lot of power, great compression but ... leaks oil too much from the case and after a number of visit to the doctor (the mechanic actually), and $$$ on it , the diagnosis was: use it as it is or go for an "open the case and see what needs to be done to make it like new"
I'm thinking to take the second option but I would like to have a proper 67 engine installed then.
I would like some advice about the two ideas that I have in mind:
- find a decent 912 67 engine, rebuild it and then put it in the car and trade for the leaking 68 engine
- find a decent 912 67 case (3rd pieces included) 916/36 that has a serial number close to my car VIN, open the good 68 engine (916/39) and use it as a donor of what is good inside and outside (carb, oil stuff, coil, crankshaft, ...), replacing what needs to replaced. I can then trade the 68 case and what is left

I fear that the first idea is more expensive than the second but I don't know if the second is feasible. I have no idea if all the stuff that are in and out of a 68 engine are the same of a 67 engine and if I can build a good engine from this frankestin approach

last option I simply open the 68 and rebuild it (not my favourite at all)

many thanks for any advice
