I only commented on power or ground for the gauges, not the lights.
Power and ground is shared (Bundled) a lot and crimped together on 1 Faston to prevent using extra wires.
As long as it has the same potential, it works.
Think of it like a long cable with many electrical light bulbs on it like they use on a Christmas tree. They all share the + and the - (ground)
Telling me that tach and speedo have a common ground, you mean that I have to connect the two instruments at the same ground or a ground instead another is indifferent because all grounds lead to the car body?
Ground is the same if you wire individually or share it with other components. Yes, all grounds lead to the car body.

With ignition ON, the Tachometer would have power and ground to potentially operate (Be on stand-by) until the engine starts and the pulse from the CDI module triggers the Tach-needle to move. Revolutions per minute (RPM) determine movement of the needle in the Tach.
