I'll just pick up this thread since I have the same questions.
HondaDustR: How did you end up doing it in the end? Did you just press them on like you described? By the way, how many miles on your car?
Could one not cut a piece of plastic tubing in the correct height and slot it so that it may be snapped around the valve guide? That way one would only need to tap the seal as far as the plastic tube.
