This is so tough for me. My little English parakeet, Skyler, passed today.
He was right around 10 years old. I'm devastated right now. He brought me through some very rough times. He has had medical issues over his life, but he was so strong. I miss him so much.
Skyler and I became really close after his best friend died 2.5 years ago. I had expected it to be the other way around. Skyler adopted me as his flock and we became inseparable. I put my life on hold for him. He flew around my home during the day and only was in his cage to sleep or board. Over the years I had experimented with leaving the birds out and it was a disaster every time. I always came home so that I could put him in his cage.
About a 1.5 years ago, he had a bad seizure (overweight) and the vet gave him 3 months to live. I made sure to get Skyler in shape and on a diet
. After the seizure, he became even closer to me. We took naps together - he would sleep on my back as I slept on the couch. he also was my alarm clock for my nap, almost always getting me up within an hour.
I'm devastated right now.
