M8 is the thread (shank) size, not grade. You want atleast a grade 8.8 bolt for most items on the car with the exception of suspension, brake, seat related stuff where you get the highest rated bolt you can find (12.9 or dealer bolts are best).
Make sure you get atleast a zinc plated bolt because one of the two runs right through the water jacket and will cause problems on removal again in the future. Anti-seize both of them liberally. If you cant find it locally and dont want to pay a dealer price, check BoltDepot.com or McMaster.com . The only difference in hardware is the dealer stuff has the yellow zinc plating which is not a big deal.
I have hardly ever been able to find good grade metric hardware locally in the states.. most stuff is sub grade 5 and that is running they even have the size i need.
