Unless someone "wants to get rid" of his 3.6 engine just taking up space in the garage I will venture out to the homelands this weekend to look at some. Seriously, I am about to go on a business trip to Good Old and plan to meet a guy who sells these 3.6 engines en masse.
Now I have to make my mind up as to whether it is going to be an early 964, a mid 964 (plastic intake, still no head gasket), a late 964 or even a 993 (maybe even Euro-VarioRam/non-OBDII)????
I would like to get opinions where $$$ are spent wise and where not. Please educate me....
So far hearsay has it, that:
- From a performance point the 964 won't be far behind after putting a good exhaust on it
- The added performance on the 993 non-VarioRam is mainly due to exhaust changes
- the mid-style headgasket-less 964 engines are "..
not so prone..." to head leaks as the earlier ones
- 993-style non-adjustable valves are a plus from a maintenance viewpoint
- For high performance applications the 964 might be even be a better choice
- The lower the mileage the better (that’s an easy one…)
