"but the complaints kept coming"
Yeah, so, how many complaints? The story wants to be controversial. One side is reading this story and thinking "Oh my gosh, they didn't show that horrible thing to students, did they?". Then, there are the other folks, saying, "Holy crap, people in America/Tennessee/Nashville are crazy, bizarre prudes."
But it doesn't say HOW MANY complaints they've had. It could be 10 or 50 or 100, none of which would be surprising to me.
I was in Japan on a military base in a Department of Defense school when I was in the last half of the 8th grade, the 9th grade, and half of the 10th grade. In English class we watched a version of R&J that showed a very bushy full frontal on Romeo for a fraction of a second. I think it was horrible, mostly because they didn't reciprocate with Juliet.
I suggest that you're going to have complaints regardless. Is anyone really surprised that there are deluded parents around thinking that a 100% shielded kid is a healthy kid that's going to do well when they hit the real world where mommy and daddy aren't there to protect them. Hell, the kids are probably already as bad or worse than most of the rest of the kids.
