You should broaden your understanding of that term; it simply means those in the forefront in
any field of endeavor who put their intelligence and energy into attempting to progress rather than be satisfied and comfortable with what is, while uninformedly criticizing any attempt at progress by others. That is commonly referred to as neophobia, which often manifests itself in anger, bitterness, denial and unhappiness.
You don't like "modern art"? Think it's a bunch o' crap? Who cares?
