Most filaments burn and break when they are subjected to a thermal shock (turning on and off).
Could have just been your unlucky day.
Look at it this way.
Cost for you to change the bulb? McParts discount price.
Cost for the dealer tech to change it with a full retail-priced bulb?
You are way ahead, whether they checked it or not.
